What is ISO? ISO is an abbrevation of International
Organization for Standardization. It is located in Switzerland and was
established in 1947 to develop common international standards in many
areas. Its members come from over 120 national standards bodies. ISO's
purpose is to facilitate international trade by providing a single set of
standards that people everywhere would recognize and respect.
ISO 9001:2000 The new ISO 9001:2000, a
significantly changed standard for business has superseded the existing
1994 version. The revised standard will require and recommend substantial
modifications and enhancements to your organisations document and data
control including the business performance structure.
Whats
New? Significant improvement to the previous ISO framework is
the focus on the Voice of the Customer, Measurement, Analysis and the
Continuous Improvement requirement. The ultimate goal of sustained
customer confidence and satisfaction will be embedded throughout the
entire ISO 9001:2000 framework.
ISO 14001 ISO
14001 environmental management standard developed by the International
Standards Organisation focuses on organisational behaviour and how this
behaviour is managed to prevent damage to the environment. These
organisations implement their environmental management systems in
accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001 voluntarily and thereby
provide proof of their conformance to internationally acceptable
environmental practices, taking responsibility for their organisations
impact on the environment and making continuous improvement a way of life
for the organisation.
Many organisations worldwide are realising
the importance of implementing, maintaining and managing a recognised and
measurable environmental management system based on the requirements of
the internationally recognised environmental management system ISO 14001.
Achieving certification gives these organisations a competitive edge
when trading internationally. |
